May-August 2021

An ambitious process unfurls in the humid summer months—six artists, six residencies, twelve weeks, an online exhibition, and a discussion with the artists. The process wraps around individual endeavors to re-tool, reaffirm boundaries, and shift syntactical modes of knowing and feeling, endeavors to ultimately reimagine and strengthen the community around sex.

I have to tell you, Francisco, this part of your statement really hits for me—where notions of placement and fixed boundaries are questioned to reveal the precariousness of belonging.

Singing on a Sinking Ship defies logic. How is this flying machine high in the sky?  When we say, this ship was sinking, we mean tragedy struck, our ship became helmless—though it also grew wings. The artists in this residency circuit willed this ship out of the ocean and into the sky. They are the community who came together to create something bigger than their individual practices.

Our bodies are sweaty, hairy, greasy, smelly, sexy things. And when they collide it can be an awesome thing, but usually it’s kinda boring. Around puberty I started to understand the full extent of my body. What it meant to be capable of reproduction. This project will explore topics we didn’t learn about in school.

Pink Line Poems is a writer’s residency on the Pink Line in Chicago, US. With this residency, we are swiping artists in to the El at the 18th street stop in Pilsen and inviting them to ride the Pink Line all the way around, to the Loop and to 54th/Cermak,  while creating new works of language based art.

Two good friends who met in the one’s hometown. That town is Abu Dhabi. llio sophia and Rabha Ashry rooted their friendship in the dusty sand of the UAE, they spent two years making sure these roots reached the center of our earth. An indestructible foundation.
